We offer assistance with administration tasks such as online renewals and form-filling, access to low-cost counselling, family support and family learning, one-to-one confidential practical and emotional support, photocopying and general enquiries.

We encourage active participation in our community and endeavour to host a range of activities that we hope will provide new learning and a social outlet.

Beara West Needs You!

Would you like to make a difference in your community? Beara West is looking for volunteers to help support our local services, from friendly phone calls, delivering Meals on Wheels to lending a hand at events and activities. Just a little of your time can make a big difference in someone’s life. If you can spare some time and would like to get involved, please contact us on 027 70998 – we’d love to hear from you!

Activities at Beara West have taken off this year, from the Rhythm Room on Wednesdays to the Women’s Group Patchwork Workshop last week; the availability of the Toy Library, Meals on Wheels and more; and the various groups that hold their meetings at the Centre including Parent & Toddler, Unislim, Active Retirement Group and more.

Activities at the Centre are led by the needs of people locally and line up with our ethos to encourage active participation in our community. Get in touch if you’d like to know what activities are coming up.

We support individuals and families in a range of ways from confidential practical and emotional supports to form-filling and various paperwork.

DIARY:

Rest and Reset: Sound Bath for Parents and Caregiver - Monday May 11th from 11am-12.30pm

A calm, gentle morning for parents and those caring for children who may have a bit more to manage day-to-day. If you’re navigating uncertainty, waiting on next steps, or just need a moment to breathe - this session may be for you. No pressure, no expectations - just a quiet space to relax and reset. Tea & chat afterwards and option to stay connected with local supports. We kindly ask for a donation of €5 per person. To book a place, call 027 70998 or pop into the Centre.

Alive in Local History Part Two: Guided Walk at Dunboy Castle - Thursday May 14th at 2pm.

Paddy O’Sullivan will lead a guided history walk at Dunboy Castle, exploring the castle and its stories. Meet at the main entrance at 2pm on Thursday May 14th.
Everyone is welcome. Come along, learn something new, and enjoy local history in good company. To book your place, please phone 027 70998.

Alive in Local History is a 3-part series of shared stories of our local past and tales brought to life. Parts 2 and 3 are taking place in May & June on the second Thursday of each month.

Seaweed Workshop – Monday May 18th at 10.30am

Join Samuel Keane for Seaweed Forage at Tralahan Strand on Monday May 18th at 10.30am. Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of seaweed foraging and ink-making. This gathering is part of the upcoming ‘Inspired by the Sea’ series with Ida Mitrani. Participants are encouraged to bring wellies (or the courage to go barefoot), a pair of scissors or a pocket knife, and a basket or net bag to gather seaweed. Spare scissors and baskets will be available. Since we’re working outdoors, consider bringing a cup for tea. Dress for the weather and be ready to get creative! This event is sponsored by Cork County Council, Artist in the Community Scheme.

Conscious Connected Breathwork - Monday May 18th at 7pm

Join Marion O’Sullivan for a relaxing breathwork session here at Beara West on Monday May 18th at 7pm. Step away from the stress of daily life and into a space of deep relaxation. In this guided session, you’ll learn a simple yet powerful breathing technique - active inhale, relaxed exhale, always connected - to help you move out of your mind and into your body. Perfect for beginners and experienced breathers alike. To book your place, phone 027 70998 or text 083 1030407.

Parent and Baby Talks - May and June

A new series of Parent and Baby Talks is set to begin at Beara West Resource Centre on May 19th, offering a warm and supportive space for parents with babies aged 0–12 months. Running over four weeks, each session will explore a different topic designed to support families through the early stages of parenthood. The talks will provide practical tips, gentle guidance, and reassurance in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Schedule of speakers and topics:
• May 19th – Fiona Healy, Women’s Health
• May 26th – Lily O’Shea, Baby Massage
• June 2nd – Gillian Arundel, Group Sleep Coach
• June 9th – Noreen Courtney, Money and Advice for Parents

More than just informational sessions, the series also aims to bring parents together, creating opportunities to connect, share experiences, and build a sense of community. Sessions cost €5 each, and all parents and their babies are welcome to attend. For more information or to book a place, phone 027 70998.

Rhythm Room – Wednesdays in April & May, 2.15pm to 3.30pm

Rhythm Room resumed after Easter with a selection of new tunes and gusto. All are welcome to come along and share in singing, stories and a cuppa. Phone us to book your place or visit www.bearawest.ie and complete the registration form in the Events section at the end of the homepage.

Toy Library

Our Toy Library offers lots of choice for 0-5 year olds. Toys can be rented out for one month at a time. Become a member for an annual fee of €10 for a child or €20 for a family. Pop into us or phone 027 70998.

Meals on Wheels

If you would be interested in a meal, or two, delivered to your door every Thursday, get in touch with the Centre. Choose from four meal options each week, pay €5 per meal, and one of our volunteers will pop out to you wherever you live in the Beara West area.

Senior Alert Scheme (personal alarms)

If a monitored personal alarm at home, in the form of a wrist strap or pendant, would give reassurance for anyone unwell or living alone, we facilitate setting up the Senior Alert Scheme. Give us a call at 027 70998.

Care Ring – social phone calls

Those who avail of the Care Ring service feed back to us how the regular calls keep them in touch, offer some company during the week, and can keep the spirits up. Please get in touch if you, or someone you know, would like to receive regular, social phone calls from our friendly volunteer team.

Meeting Rooms Available

Meeting rooms at the Centre are available to book, including on Monday and Thursday evenings up to 8.45pm. Give us a ring to discuss the needs of your group.
