Beara West Family Resource Centre

We offer assistance with administration tasks such as online renewals and form-filling, access to low-cost counselling, family support and family learning, one-to-one confidential practical and emotional support, photocopying and general enquiries. 

We encourage active participation in our community and endeavour to host a range of activities that we hope will provide new learning and a social outlet.

Beara West Needs You!

Would you like to make a difference in your community? Beara West is looking for volunteers to help support our local services, from friendly phone calls, delivering Meals on Wheels to lending a hand at events and activities. Just a little of your time can make a big difference in someone’s life. If you can spare some time and would like to get involved, please contact us on 027 70998 – we’d love to hear from you!

Activities at Beara West have taken off this year, from the Rhythm Room on Wednesdays to the Women’s Group Patchwork Workshop last week; the availability of the Toy Library, Meals on Wheels and more; and the various groups that hold their meetings at the Centre including Parent & Toddler, Unislim, Active Retirement Group and more.

Activities at the Centre are led by the needs of people locally and line up with our ethos to encourage active participation in our community. Get in touch if you’d like to know what activities are coming up.

We support individuals and families in a range of ways from confidential practical and emotional supports to form-filling and various paperwork.

Easter Scavenger Hunt for all the Family (poster attached):

Join us at Beara West for our exciting Easter Scavenger Hunt – perfect for all ages! Pick up your clue sheet from reception and complete the hunt in your own time, no rush. Return your completed sheet to Beara West and every participant will receive an Easter goody bag full of surprises. Final date to return clue sheets is Friday April 10th.

Alive in Local History Part One: Thursday April 9th at 3pm

Join Paddy O’Sullivan for an informative talk on local places and buildings and their stories.
The event is open to everyone. Come along, learn something new, and enjoy local history in good company. To book your place, please phone 027 70998. A €5 donation is kindly requested to support future events.

Alive in Local History  is a 3-part series of shared stories of our local past and tales brought to life. These history talks and walks are taking place in April, May & June on the second Thursday of each month.

Young Hearts Facing Loss  - Monday April 20th at 7pm
Join John Douglas as he explores the experience of grief and loss, from natural to unexpected deaths, offering a supportive space for young people and families to understand, share, and find guidance. Suitable for ages 10 years and above. Parents also welcome to attend. To book your place, phone 027 70998 or text 083 1030407.

Citizens Information Talk Series :

There are two very informative talks coming up on Friday April 24th.

11am–1pm Adapting Your Home: Accessing Support, and

2pm–4pm Housing Help: From Renting to Building

This Citizens Information Talk Series offers a range of FREE, informative talks open to everyone. Each session focuses on a specific topic and offers practical advice and up-to-date information. Booking is essential, and a minimum of 10 attendees is required for each session. For more information, or to book your place, phone the Centre on 027 70998.

Rhythm Room - Wednesdays 2.15pm to 3.30pm

Rhythm Room is on a break. This popular singing session will resume after Easter on April 22nd. All are welcome to come along and share in singing and stories. Phone us to book your place or visit www.bearawest.ie and complete the registration form in the Events section at the end of the homepage.

Toy Library

Our Toy Library offers lots of choice for 0-5 year olds. Toys can be rented out for one month at a time. Become a member for an annual fee of €10 for a child or €20 for a family. Pop into us or phone 027 70998.

Meals on Wheels

If you would be interested in a meal, or two, delivered to your door every Thursday, get in touch with the Centre. Choose from four meal options each week, pay €5 per meal, and one of our volunteers will pop out to you wherever you live in the Beara West area.

Senior Alert Scheme (personal alarms)

If a monitored personal alarm at home, in the form of a wrist strap or pendant, would give reassurance for anyone unwell or living alone, we facilitate setting up the Senior Alert Scheme. Give us a call at 027 70998.

Care Ring – social phone calls

Those who avail of the Care Ring service feed back to us how the regular calls keep them in touch, offer some company during the week, and can keep the spirits up. Please get in touch if you, or someone you know, would like to receive regular, social phone calls from our friendly volunteer team.

Meeting Rooms Available

Meeting rooms at the Centre are available to book, including on Monday and Thursday evenings up to 8.45pm. Give us a ring to discuss the needs of your group.
